Backyard Transformation: Gazebo Installation & Privacy Planting in Castle Rock

At EarthWorks Landscaping, we love helping families turn ordinary outdoor spaces into private, personalized retreats. One of our recent projects in Castle Rock, Colorado, was the perfect example of how a few key additions can completely transform a backyard.

The homeowner had purchased a stylish, hardtop gazebo from Costco, and we were brought in to handle the full installation and create a serene, private environment around it. The goal was to build a year-round gathering space while also enhancing the privacy and natural beauty of the yard.

  • The Costco Gazebo: With expert assembly and a stable concrete footing, the gazebo now anchors the backyard as a shaded retreat for family dinners, quiet evenings, and morning coffee — rain or shine.
  • 10 Colorado Blue Spruce Trees: These evergreen giants were strategically planted along the fence line to provide year-round privacy and wind protection. Not only do they block unwanted views, but they also bring the calming beauty of Colorado’s native landscape right into the yard.  Spruce trees selected included the CO Blue Spruce, and Hoopsi Blue Spruce.
  • 2 Deciduous Trees: To add some variety and fall color, we planted an Autumn Blaze Maple (known for it’s fast growth and brilliant red fall color), and a Honeycrisp Apple (known for it’s beautiful, fragrant white spring flowers) in the corners of the yard.
  • 5 Ornamental Shrubs: To complement the structure and soften the surrounding space, we planted a mix of colorful shrubs around the gazebo.  These included 3 Rosy Glow Barberry, and 2 Dwarf Burning Bush.  These add seasonal interest and help tie the new installation into the existing landscape.

The entire project was completed in just three days, giving the homeowners an instant backyard oasis to enjoy all summer long — and for many seasons to come.
