Transforming Yards into Family Spaces

Maximizing Every Inch: The Shea Family Backyard Transformation

The Shea family in Parker, Colorado, had a small backyard with a challenging slope, making it difficult to enjoy. EarthWorks Landscaping’s mission was to turn this uneven space into a functional, family-friendly outdoor retreat.

To start, we installed a 300-foot, 4-foot-high retaining wall to level the yard and create a strong foundation. On top of this, we built a 200-square-foot stamped concrete patio with a sitting wall — a perfect spot to relax, entertain, or enjoy the evening air.

The yard also includes 900 square feet of lush sod for pets and kids to play, and 256 feet of privacy fencing stained to match the community’s approved colors. To add structure and beauty, we planted one tree and 42 shrubs, perennials, and ornamental grasses, creating a low-maintenance yet inviting landscape.

This project was designed with the future in mind. The layout provides distinct zones for relaxation, recreation, and privacy, making smart use of every inch. What was once a steep, underutilized backyard is now a warm, welcoming extension of the Shea family’s home, blending function, beauty, and family-friendly design.
